Work Experience

Hampshire Chronicle
While partaking in a week's work experience at the Hampshire Chronicle, I got the opportunity to attend many local events to observe how reporters transpire them into narratives.
Over the course of the week, I spent three out of five days at Winchester Crown Court, shadowing a journalist covering a murder trial. During this time, I closely observed the live blogging process and gained insight into real-time court reporting.
Winchester City Council's planning meeting took place on 11th June, with discussions of new homes and tree works taking place. Once again, I had the opportunity to observe the process of a live blog and heard some interesting insights from both residents and councillors about the planning applications.
In addition, I had the opportunity to write a couple of articles based on online research. These included coverage of the annual Prosecco Festival and public reactions to the closure of Romsey’s NatWest branch, all of which involved conducting background research and monitoring social media for public sentiment and updates.
One of the most exciting aspects of the experience was the opportunity to speak with Anna Fauvelle, the chair of Raising Twenty1 charity, who hosted a fashion show fundraiser at The Hambledon in Winchester. After conducting a brief virtual interview following the event, I was assigned to write the article, which you can view here.
